Scooters 4 Hooters

Scooters 4 Hooters was formed as a bold and unique way to reach thousands of breast cancer supporters and scooter enthusiasts alike!
In 1983 Robin got into a mini bike accident ,almost losing her leg. After many surgeries, she recovered physically but Libby was having no more of her daughter being on two wheels! Robin never lost the urge to ride but always respected her mom's wishes. About a week before Libby passed away, Robin said " Hey Mom, I know life is short and I didn't know if you had a different take on things..." and that's as far as Robin got before Libby said, " You can get your motorcycle or scooter!" In disbelief Robin called her sister into the room so she'd have a witness. Robin hugged her mom and promised to be careful. Libby had no idea what was to come of the permission granted that day. Months later and having just lost her mom, Robin bought her motorcycle... and her scooter.
"
The first time I rode with the wind in my face, I got a grin from ear to ear. I think of Mom when I ride and that feeling of fun and freedom is what prompted Scooters 4 Hooters". The next year, with less than two months of planning, the inaugural ride "Scooters 4 Hooters" took place in Orlando, Florida on June 10, 2007. A goal was set for $5000.00...nearly $14,000 was raised!!

"The ride was amazing and the celebration of life afterwards went on for hours! It was so diverse: Rich/poor, black/white, gay/straight, republican/democrat, Christian/Buddhist. Breast cancer doesn't discriminate which is why it was amazing to see such diversity in the riders and scoopies (see definition of scoopie here: Scoopie) We had over 55 scooters, 400 attendees and raised nearly $14,000 in our first event! I am truly grateful for the support of this community"

The second annual ride took place May 18, 2008.....There were over 100 scooters and $51,000 was raised! What an amazing testament to the heart of the Orlando community! We were able to give away our first Libby's Legacy: LIVE BIG Alaska cruise to an incredible stage 4 breast cancer survivor!!

On April 30, 2008 15 underinsured, high risk women who have been on a waiting list with other organizations for years, were able to receive free mammograms thanks to your generosity! These women were so grateful and so relieved.
Thank you to the Women's Center For Radiology and their director and Dr.'s for their unwavering support of this project. They stayed late, read al of the reports that same day and were incredibly gracious to these recipients! Thank you all!
Thank you to vitamin water for providing refreshing vitamin water, music and fun! You helped to make 'getting um squished' much more fun!
